Waterfund and IBM Announce:

WATERFUND I INSIGHTS

In January 2013 Waterfund LLC signed an agreement with IBM to develop the Water Cost Index (WCI) which provides an estimate of the relative cost of water in regions around the world. Now in 2015 Waterfund and IBM are creating a service that will give local governments the ability to project water costs under different hydrological scenarios.

This service will address the needs of local, regional, and national water managers as they plan the impact of their current water supply considering potential future events. The Waterfund service is flexible and will run on large desktop screens as well as automatically adapting to smaller tablet devices. On the homepage. water managers encounter a dashboard which provides a high-level view of information vital to their goals.

From there, they can launch the WCI chart that projects the water cost index trend for 3, 5. and 10 years into the future. The water managers will also entertain various "what if' scenarios with the Water Supply Conditions (WSC) panel. Elements of the water cost profiles can be adjusted including aquifer level, snowpack, drought and flood. When run, the Waterfund Insight Service uses the water supply levels and appropriate cost factors to project the water cost index. The resulting analytics provide a realistic prediction of future water cost index.

In a follow-on release the Waterfund Insight Service will be able to estimate the impact of infrastructure investments such as desalination investment, conservation. wastewater treatment. and long distance water transfer The water manager will be able to derive realistic costs estimation as they adjust for depreciation, capital expenses, subsidies. operating and non-operating revenue, and total water produced.
